Dr Heidi Baker

Born in rural Australia, Dr Heidi came to New Zealand after completing her Paediatric training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. She has called New Zealand home for 19 years.

Heidi has worked in Auckland and Queenstown over her time in NZ and completed training in Adult and Paediatric emergency medicine in 2010. In 2020 she became a certified coach. Throughout her training Heidi has sought to focus not only on the physical presentation of health, but on a more holistic approach to patient centred care. This is increasingly challenging to achieve within out acute care settings.

With over 25 years of paediatric experience, Heidi brings to the team knowledge of developmental and behavioural challenges many children and their families face. Consideration of medicinal cannabis (CBD) for children and adolescents, is increasingly being requested. Overseas experience has shown benefits for some patients. The skills and experience Heidi brings to the team ensure we can integrate alongside specialist paediatricians, primary care providers and families to ensure we are optimising the physicial and emotional wellbeing, educational and behavioural trajectories for children.

Heidi brings experience with both adults and children, and alongside her lived experience of a recent diagnosis of breast cancer, is familiar with the transition from practitioner to patient and complex navigation of our health system.
